It seams a bit odd for Al Assad to say, "People will not accept foreigners in this region anymore."

Hasn't he invited into Syria the Russian military, Russian private military contractors, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah, and various other Iran-funded Shiite militias from as far away as Iraq and Afghanistan? Doesn't he continue to work with all these groups? I think it is quite evident that Assad is not against foreigners in general -- only those who oppose him.

The impression I'm getting from Israel is a lot of fear and a feeling that they are completely surrounded by enemies. Europe has almost completely turned against them, openly siding with the Palestinians. We're seeing anti-Semitism become fashionable again. Even a large part of the United States has turned against them, mostly the Progressive wing that now controls the Democratic party. With that sort of fear, they can easily panic and make a miscalculation similar to 2006.
