What confuses me is why the PRC has shown any restraint. Why didn't they just kill her? They probably could have gotten away with it and avoided the risk of her speaking out. Are they above such killings?

They kidnap booksellers in Hong Kong; and sometimes Chinese dissidents 'disappear' forever. Some foreigners have already been imprisoned on false charges ('corrupt business practices') and can only leave prison when they agree to sign over their business to a Chinese national (PRC). Soon, very soon, the non ethnic Chinese opposition will start to be killed. The mask has slipped one too many times.

New Zealand's prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, is a flaming left wing idiot who is more concerned about keeping out rich American investors like Peter Thiel than saving NZ from Chinese invasion and occupation. Jacinda is another clueless Jeffrey Corbin type Labour Party member who the press fawns over even while she actively destroys NZ's economy, discourages non-Chinese investment, and fills her government with liberal weirdos and PRC Chinese spies. Corbin will surrender the UK to the Russians (because the Russians are 'good people' unlike Americans) and Jacinda will simply give NZ to the Chinese. Both population will suffer horrific fates; deservingly so.

So much form the mega rich riding out the collapse of civilization in NZ. The Chinese will inflict barbaric atrocities on the ANZAC populations that would make the Imperial Japanese Army shudder. You see, the Chinese hate being outdone by anyone. This will be their chance to restore the balance.

Are New Zealanders paying attention? True, they keep close watch on immigration and don't call seasonal labor "undocument workers". The governmental system warrants careful watch. Lots of factions and agendas. Astounding that New Zealand is ruled from far and near by women. Not a one has the earmarks of The Iron Lady or even Nicki Haley. As we watch security clearance failures here, I wonder who is minding the security stores anywhere.

"Western" security is amazingly (and historically) incompetent. "Western" IT personnel are amazingly incompetent.

(I'm not saying that non-western Sec/IT systems are any more competent. But we [western] play defense, while they play offense.)

..a major "next step" on our way to war will be when "Western" security actually starts to (urgently) improve their competence.

I know this is Captain Obvious material, but it needs to be acknowledged.

What I am, personally, looking for these days, in relation to the oncoming war(s), are those "changes in direction" of the mood and operation of the masses (and systems) of people within their respective countries.

Security oriented "professionals" are notorious for being "butt coverers", and when that "mood" changes, it means a significant change in "a society".

Fish:
Today is a great example of your mood swing observation method. Mueller made his barry/clinton cya pronouncement and now both sides are crying "na-na-nee-boo-boo". Millions of taxpayer bucks and no justice.
DC is playing a dangerous domestic game.
Out there in Eurasia, China and NK are pushing limits. The ME chooses new sides every day and Africa is in constant turmoil.
One certainty: all the UN BS aside, there will never be a war to end all wars that depends on human behavior or "wisdom".

Russian hostility to the west is due to NATO advancing right up to Russia's doorstep, not because Russia wants to Annex the UK and US. The Russians Might Fantasize of reestablishing the USSR but not invading western Europe, let alone the UK. A Chinese invasion of New Zealand is an impossibility without beforehand a conquest of southeast Asia, Taiwan and the Philippines, then later Indonesia and new guinea. The conquest of said regions are required prerequisites for an invasion of the Anzac region without which china can't even think of invading, this is because of geography and logistical reasons.

If America is weakened, distracted, or falters, NZ will be wide open to invasion. NZ's security has been entirely dependent on the US since 1942. The Chinese could easily invade NZ without conquering SE Asia first. This isn't the 1940s. Australia is weak. It wouldn't be able to do anything except barely fend for itself or beg for help.

The current Kiwi government is made up of liberals. They would probably panic and surrender. The Chinese immigrant population is a fifth column. It's not racist to say that. It's true.

Southeast Asia would have to be conquered first because otherwise the logistics of a proposed invasion would be completely awful. Chinese Ships on their way to NZ would be exposed to possible ambush at any time in the absence of a conquered southeast Asia.
