Note to Trump: China indeed bears watching.
Hopefully those around you have made you aware of China's American investments.
Pakistan's rulers have never been known for fiscal responsibility...and this statement is a kindness. Again the world is faced with sunni vs shia. This sectarian fighting is now becoming reality to the Chinese, debt trap not withstanding.
Question: how many Chinese lives will be sacrificed to CPEC?
As an aside: how many more lives will America sacrifice in Afghanistan?

The Pakistani's should be worried. They should know that China only enters into trade arrangements that are designed to cripple/steal/ensnare the other country. The objective is global hegemony and subjugation, not building strong, mutually beneficial bilateral partnerships. Bend the knee. That is the Chinese objective, that's why nobody really likes dealing with them.

But ... but ... I've always been told that the relationship between
China and Pakistan is "higher than mountains, deeper than oceans,
stronger than steel, sweeter than honey, and dearer than eyesight."

John, as you know I am cynical beyond my years. But, I have some faith in the marketplace, long term. The Chinese are simply terrible to deal with, way worse than the Russians. Nobody likes dealing with the Chinese, but do so out of necessity to source cheap products. You can't access their markets, you can't trust them with your intellectual property, or anything else, you can't invest in Chinese companies because you have no idea whether the assets on the balance sheets even exist. They dump. They strong arm, consistently. They're absolute shit to deal with, and in the long term when China decides they want to transition from a cheap manufacturing economy to an information based high-income service economy selling consulting, financial services, fighter jets and software and other high-end services, it's not going to work. Not only because of the economic, social and educational problems, but because nobody in the world will take them seriously.
