I dislike the idea of starving innocents, but perhaps the reality is that if one is going to start a war, one might want to not allow one's supply lines to be cut off?

In other words, why would anyone think that the age-old tactics of warfare aren't still an option?

Only complete morons start wars they can't possibly "win", meaning "at least survive".

But then, where does it say that complete morons can't come to power in a country with the capacity to make war?

Every day astounds me more than the last. I suppose that's one of the distinguishing features of "times like these". In Gen Crisis times time seems to be compressed. One "panic" or another is just hours away, it seems, and great swathes of "public opinion" change course mid-air like a disturbed mega-flock of Starlings.

I have to wonder if the accelerated pace of change is actually (physio-psychically) killing off the older generation? And the acceleration accelerates.

I've heard drinking from a fire hose can leave you thirstier than you were before you decided to rehydrate. Perhaps it's time go find a little puddle away from the hydrant, and suck up the muddy but drinkable water in it, to keep from going dry?

Aloha, and go find an island someplace...

Update: Ali Abdullah Saleh was killed today. Saleh was an ally of the
Houthis/Iran in Yemen until he apparently switched sides last week to
the Saudi side. The Houthis accused him of a betrayal, and apparently
ambushed him at a checkpoint in Sanaa.

Analysts are saying that this is a victory for the Houthis and Iran,
but it also weakens the Houthis in the sense that it will further
split the groups allied with the Houthis.

The effects of Saleh's death will depend on what the Saudis and
Iranians do next. Saleh's son in Saudi Arabia is being proposed as
his replacement. The only thing that's certain is that Saleh's death
guarantees more chaos.

John,.. ya' know,.. It might be worthwhile to consider "integrating" GD Theory with "Flocking Behavioral Dynamics ('Boids')" and the psychological insights of Jordan B. Peterson.

..not sure how valuable "flocking/swarming/shoaling/herding dynamics" would apply, but since so much of the erratic behavior seen in public opinion COULD be described "better" (!?) by that theory, and steering "zombie hordes" is a personal interest of mine, it seemed natural to include it. <chuckle>

Aloha dude! <shaka!>

Or instead of birds maybe compare them to swarms of insects -- ants,
bees and cockroaches all have lessons we can learn.

Or perhaps the best comparison of all is to hordes of lemmings
following each other off a cliff.

So you're right -- there's so much we can learn from the animals.

Some interesting stuff:

Peterson's site:

...yeah,.. I'm "pushing" Peterson at the moment. I'm just seeing a goodly bit of "duplication of thought" between Peterson's thinking and GD theory.

Aloha and mahalo! <shaka!>
