How is the blockade of Qatar supposed to play out? It seems pointless, even dangerous. The Qataris aren't going to give in; it would mean the loss of independence. If Saudi attacks Qatar, Turkey and Iran will attack the Saudis. Saudi Arabia must have known all of this, yet, they went ahead with it. Did Donald Trump accidentally 'green light' this the way a clueless American diplomat did the Iraq-Kuwait invasion in 1990? Ho can Saudi back down now without losing face?
Any guess, John, on how this will end?

vitriolic for years, especially since the Arab Spring began. I don't
expect this to end in any way except war.

How long until things get violent? I can't imagine Iran or Turkey allowing this situation to continue.John wrote:Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran have getting increasinglyGuest wrote:How is the blockade of Qatar supposed to play out? I actually believe that a Saudi-Turkish war is more likely than a Saudi-Iranian war if this crisis with Qatar goes hot. Turkey has actually deployed troops to Qatar as part of its response, while Iran hasn't. This probably has to do with the fact that Turkey is Sunni, while Iran is Shiite. Those civilization differences are why Turkey and Qatar are military allies through the IMAFT treaty; while Iran and Qatar are still technically in a proxy war with each other in Syria.Guest wrote:How long until things get violent?
