Has anyone done research into India's crisis wars that preceded the 1857 Rebellion?

The Battle of Plassey c. 1760 seems a somewhat likely candidate for a crisis climax in Bengal, and I've also read that Delhi was sacked sometime in the mid 1700s by Afghans & Persians. Meanwhile there was apparently a massive war between S. Indian Hindus/Marathas and the Muslim Mughals in the late 1600s, but that would not have directly preceded the 1857 Rebellion.

A couple of years ago I spent a month trying to figure out India's
generational history. The problem is that India is so big that it has
multiple timelines and multiple crisis wars, so it's total chaos to
figure out. Incidentally, it was something of a lucky break that I
figured out that the 1857 rebellion was a really big deal. It's
apparently a verboten topic among Hindus since they lost. So getting
a complete generational picture of India is a huge task. Good luck!
