I learned about The Singularity from this website. What will become of the people who lose their jobs to AI and automation? Do computer scientist ever consider that while working on 'improving' people's quality of life? To me, this is the elephant in the room, but I hear few people discuss solutions to it.

This has nothing to do with AI. People have been losing their jobs to
automation for centuries. Read about the Luddites. Imagine how many
scribes lost their jobs when the printing press was invented. Or
imagine how many laborers lost their jobs when the wheel was invented.
In more modern times, how many secretaries lost their jobs because of
word processors? AI is just the next stage.
