Great write-up about China. I would imagine China will ramp up the aggression to show how weak the court decision truly is.

Also, nothing about UK leaving the EU? Does this mean they would potentially not stay on the EU side in the war to come?

Side note typo,

"Four of them, The Gambia, Kenya, Niger and Sudan, are far away in Asia." (I believe it is Africa)

John does a good job about choosing topics that aren't covered elsewhere. You can read about Brexit everywhere. Though I fully expect it will be a topic of one of his essays before long. That being said - I found this Brexit process fascinating. I did something last night I basically never do - I watched a video stream for hours of the voting results and the politician/financiers interviews. It was evident that most of those interviewed thought it stupid and incomprehensible that they would vote for "Leave" and were in shock that it wasn't working out that way. What I perceived from this is that the dynamics there are similar to the US in that there is an elite media/political/financial set of our society, mostly congregated in larger cities that exist in their own echo chamber of thought. They don't understand how anyone could feel differently than them - and are disdainful of anyone that disagrees with the accepted elite way of perceiving things. These same dynamics are affecting the US election process as a majority of the electorate has defied the will of the elites by voting for people who represent radical change from the status quo (Trump, Sanders and to a lesser extent Cruz). I understand that in a crisis era that people naturally turn more nationalistic, what I'm not clear about is: is the polarization in the media/political/financial class that we're seeing normal, or is it generational, or is something else driving it?

As for Brexit and how that could affect WWIII alignment: who knows? I expect not. But then again, if Britain exits and then half a dozen other nations exit - all bets are off. AND when China decides to do something stupid, I expect that alignments will fall quickly into place - As it will take years for Britain to exit the EU fully - I expect that it might not even happen before China forces everyone's hand.

Interesting and scary times.

Jack

Interesting,
If you have read any observations regarding the public and the media during the Nazi period, the Germans eagerly read the newspapers and believed the Nazi propaganda . However when they could look out the window of their transport vehicle and see destruction they quit believing the lies. The same could be happening in Europe and the US today.
