i can see the US moving away from saudi arabia and saudi arabia moving towards china and china moving towards pakistan and india moving towards the west and the west moving towards russia but for the life of me i don't see the US-iran thing ever happening

You could have made similar arguments in the 1930s about how Stalin
was our mortal enemy, and yet Stalin was our ally during WW II.
