Russia at least recognizes what the US recognized before we nuked Japan. The civilians support, supply and serve "the enemy." Russia is fighting the motivation behind the insurgents which bubbles up from the Islamic doctrine and given "legs" by the civilians. The civilians are key to any hint of a seculalrized Syria. Too bad the US didn't recongnize the Islamic/civilian problem in Iraq and Afghanistan. And still doesn't.

Mr. Xenakis, do you think the siege of Aleppo will provide the spark that will set the Middle East aflame? Turkey was able to restrain herself while the death and destruction remained out of sight. But Aleppo is on her doorstep and Turkey is actively involved with supplying the rebel forces in Aleppo. Once the Russians/Iranians/Hezbollah completes the encirclement of Aleppo and begins to squeeze the city like a python, do you think Turkey will intervene militarily? If so, will this be the scenario that forces the U.S. to choose a side in the fight?
