In fact the borders are still opened and you can enter France if your intentions are peaceful. What has been announced was the reestablishment of border controls, something usually proscribed between Schengen area countries. However, someone (Hollande himself? A journalist?) spoke of closing the border and everybody repeated.Hollande says that the borders are closed so that no one else can enter France to commit further crimes. It's not clear to me how long the border closings can be maintained, since there's supposed to be freedom of travel throughout Europe's Schengen zone, which includes France.

The following is the full text of French President Francois Hollande’s
speech to the public Friday night, Nov. 13, in the wake of a string of
deadly shootings and explosions that left more than 100 people dead.
...
The second decision I have made is to close the borders. We must
ensure that no one enters to commit any crimes and that those who have
committed the crimes that we have unfortunately seen can also be
arrested if they should leave the territory.

To John,
As a matter of fact, the borders aren't closed. In fact, most of the crossings aren't yet controlled because the police and the military are overstretched and lack of people. Once again, Hollande made empty gestures. Not surprising.

Illegal immigrants don't bother to go through check points. Europe is wide open.

That may not be true for long.
