Will there be a war in Korea soon? It seems the recent land mine incident could be the trigger. Park Guen Hye is not a left winger willing to ignore the murders of Korean soldiers like the left-wing president in 2002 naval clash. You always say war will happen one day. Could this be a ploy by China to start a war with America? Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

Generational Dynamics predicts that there will be no nuclear-free world, and that by the time that the climax of the next world war is reached, every nuclear weapon in the world will have been used as a weapon somewhere.
I would not entirely agree with this. It is true that by the end, all sides will be willing to use everything they have. However, not all nuclear weapons will actually hit something. Some of them will be destroyed on the ground or in naval bases by enemy strikes. Others will be intercepted on route by our ballistic defense systems, along with ones that China, Russia, and others may possess by that period of time. Even so, many will end up detonating above cities and military installations.

At the same time, a similar nuclear bomb is not likely to cause the same level of devastation as the two dropped on Japan in 1945. Modern buildings are much stronger and more fire-resistant than they were in 1945. We will also have at least some advance warning for the population to find whatever shelter they can manage. Even a warning of a matter of minutes could save a lot of lives.

At the yield of most strategic weapons around the world, the major killers are likely to be the blast wave and thermal effects, not radiation poisoning.
