Your definitions are spot on. However I would ad that in a climax event if the loser is exterminated ( as has happened through history ) the loser becomes irrelevant. Carthage vs. Rome is sort of an example, and Rome marched on. One could say the same of the US, what happened to many of the indigenous cultures? You could also ad the Chinese the Japanese, etc , just a different time frame.
