Yemen US Intel passed to Iran.

US equipment taken by Houthi.

I reference the 2 articles above not to say that US is undermining itself intentionally but it could easily be just mismanagement and/or the picture changing too fast (so things had to be left behind in the rush to get out). In any case the US administraction using Yemen as a success story smacks of Orwellian Newspeak.

Looking at an old email from 2010 I was reminded that during the Surge in Iraq a lot of equipment used by the insurgents to kill US and coalition soldiers was furnished by Iran. So from then to now it is indeed remarkable that the method works so well. Will be interesting to see how the Russia alignment finally works out.

Here's an interesting sidelight: The story about Saudi Arabia massing
soldiers on the Yemen border started getting reported around midnight
ET Wednesday morning, and was reported all through the day Wednesday
on AlJazeera, BBC, and other news channels. I heard multiple analysts
talk about the situation, but every single one of those analysts said
that the Saudis would NOT take any military action in Yemen, because
they didn't want to provoke Iran or because they didn't have
sufficient forces.

One analyst wrote on Wednesday: "The Saudis can reinforce border
security and make a show of force, but they lack the capabilities to
execute and sustain the size and complexity of an intervention force
that could reach Sana'a and hold it. At this time, the Saudis also
would have no reliable support from southern Yemen."

So today, Iran is demanding that the Saudis stop the air strikes.
We'll have to see whether Iran intervenes militarily in Yemen,
starting a full-fledged sectarian proxy war.

Houthis seeking Russian aide.

Don't know if above article is serious or not since I found no other sources mentioned. I include it anyway since it seems to tie Russia in so all that is missing is for US to openly side in Yemen with Iran then you have a kind of Iran/Russia/US grouping (plus saw article today or yesterday where Russia is now worried about ISIS and returning fighters - a point you made a long time ago - the G Force trolls need to pass this stuff up the chain faster). As you note it is rather early for all of this so will just have to see where this goes but I could see the Saudis wanting Yemen firmly in hand due to strategic Gulf of Aman shipping.

These guys must have read your post today:
