Did Muslims discover America? I guess one can play word games - but discover America? not really. Islam was founded in 622 CE which I think is an accepted date.

Now new evidence suggests that the ancient Egyptians had been to the Americas as early as 1,000 BC, and for a surprising reason.
German scientist Dr Svetla Balabanova was studying the mummified remains of Lady Henut Taui, a member of the ruling class, when she made a surprising discovery – the mummy contained traces of nicotine and cocaine.-- The results were particularly surprising considering that tobacco and coca plants, which were only found in the Americas at the time, were not exported overseas until the Victorian era in the 19th century. Could it be that the ancient Egyptians had made it all the way to America 3,000 years ago? -

A story on the front page of the April 5, 1909 edition of the Arizona Gazette recounted the discovery of a series of bizarre caves and artifacts in the Marble Canyon region of the Grand Canyon. The report claimed two Smithsonian-funded archaeologists, Prof. S. A. Jordan and G.E. Kinkaid, are responsible for the find.
(D)iscoveries which almost conclusively prove that the race which inhabited this mysterious cavern, hewn in solid rock by human hands, was of oriental origin, possibly from Egypt, tracing back to Ramses. If their theories are borne out by the translation of the tablets engraved with hieroglyphics, the mystery of the prehistoric peoples of North America, their ancient arts, who they were and whence they came, will be solved. Egypt and the Nile, and Arizona and the Colorado will be linked by a historical chain running back to ages which staggers the wildest fancy of the fictionist.
Such a discovery would have offered hard evidence of an Egyptian journey to Americas but perhaps it is just too inconvenient to rewrite the history books and alter long-held traditions such as the Columbus Day celebrations. -

Pre-Columbian Voyages to America
“The major reason for the initial criticisms to Balabanova's work is the disbelief in pre-Columbian transoceanic contacts.
"After mid-century, any archaeologist worried about money or career avoided looking at pre-Columbian contacts across saltwater [p. 193].." It appears that acknowledging that pre-Columbian contacts occurred was not academically acceptable

God save Australia from Harper - annoying the new best friend of your biggest trading partner isn't the smartest move in the book. Mind you, he's already proved he's not big on evidence, as demonstrated by his idiotic pronouncements on climate change.
Russia is not "in" Ukraine - if they were there would be Russian tanks in Kiev by now given how the ukraine army gives up and runs away if faced with tough opposition. The only country "in" Ukraine is the USA with their mercenaries and CIA operatives.

Harper is the leader of Canada-not Australia. RT television must have mixed up the notes they gave you. Perhaps you were drunk when you wrote that? It doesn't really matter; I was expecting another visit from Moscow's paid Internet troll. Whatever the Kremlin pays you, it's too much. Your posts are pathetic.Rowan wrote:God save Australia from Harper - annoying the new best friend of your biggest trading partner isn't the smartest move in the book. FINALLY! I've been waiting 15 years for western leaders to finally wake up and realize how hopeless it truly is to treat Putin as a decent human being, instead of the baskstabbing coward and liar he really is.
Putin's still threatening nuclear war, I see. It only goes to show how effective the sanctions really are. The sanctions are about to get worse. Rowan, ask your Kremlin paymasters how it feels to be bleeding to death. The more Putin pushes, the worse things will get for the Russians. I can't wait until the riots start: first Russians fighting with the Circassians, then Russians fighting Russians as the food runs out.

I'll tell you who "discovered" America.
The Native American Indians did (called that only because the Great Navigator did not know what Hemisphere he was in).

Very true, because it was never lost, only others were not aware of it. ( It depends upon you definition of discovered, and by whom )Tom Mazanec wrote:I'll tell you who "discovered" America.

There is even a question if even the "native Americans are native -- what ever --
that was a long time ago. -- http://www.independent.co.uk/news/scien ... 52370.html
Re: 17-Nov-14 World View -- Did Muslims discover America?
Putin may be popular in Russia in his efforts to restore what is seen as his past greatness, but he's playing a very dangerous game. This could very easily backfire on him, especially taking into account what their other neighbors are thinking. If they think they'll be fine as long as they toe the line, they're not likely to do much. However, if they get the impression that Putin will invade regardless of their actions, then we have a lot more trouble. We've figured out how much Putin's word is really worth.
Re: 17-Nov-14 World View -- Did Muslims discover America?
But only one thing, muslims, if the word is being used to connotate arabs or turks were not ancient Egyptians. Islam did not come into being long after the Egyptian Empire ceased, after Cleopatra whose heritage was Greek, not Egyptian.
In fact most Egyptians are not Egyptians, as were all but the Nubian and Hyskos Dynasty of ancient Egypt, but more likely arabic and perhaps muslim as well.
The only possible ancestors of ancient egypt are possibly, non-muslim, egyptian orthodox members.
Therefore, no muslims did not discover the new world as Egyptians, but perhaps at some period thousands of years later maybe even before Christopher Columbus, maybe muslims did re- discover the new world.
Certainly not before the Ancestors of North American Indians did or perhaps not even before the Vikings did it.
