To Quote Egyptologist Sir Flinders Petrie (1911 ) on page 77 of "The collapse of Complex Societies" by Joseph A. Tainter, 1988 Cambridge University Press

"The real nature of human progress is the expansion followed by collapse. Democracy is a regular feature of decaying civilizations. -- When a democracy is established, the destitute consume the capital of the wealthy, and the civilization must then decay until invasion destroys it."

The US was founded as a Representative Republic.

From what I understand, the right to vote in the early US was restricted to property owners, which makes sense as property owners are going to be the ones most adversely affected by bad governance. Out of self-protection, you would vote for the candidate that would do the least damage to you.

There has been talk of a variation of that concept. If you are on welfare you can't vote, only the productive should be allowed to vote.

In the future, only the illegal immigrants and those on welfare will be allowed to vote. Why? To keep useless D.C. politicians in power. Don't worry, taxpayers. The current tidal wave of illegals have big plans for you.

Or, to be blunt: when people start voting for a living, you know your country is screwed.
