I agree. The IDF was almost done blowing up all the tunnels. If Hamas had not attacked I really think they would have left when they finished. But a suicide bomber and a kidnapping during a truce, after Netanyahu told Obama they broke all the previous truces, makes any future truce very unlikely. Now the objective is not just the tunnels, it is Hamas. The IDF has been reluctant to blow up every building with a Hamas guy in it as there might have been a tunnel entrance inside that building and it is hard to find after the building falls down. But if they think they have all the tunnels then it is ok to fire tanks at anyone shooting small arms fire at the IDF. The chances that Hamas survives has gone down. They might level all buildings within 3 km of the border and then bulldoze all the rubble to the side just to check for any remaining tunnels and widden the buffer zone by this 3 km.

Aesop Fable: The Scorpion and the Frog

A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion
asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, "How do
I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion says, "Because if I do, I
will die too."

The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the
scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and
starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time
to gasp "Why?"

Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."
