12-Jul-14 World View -- Gaza tunnels dangerous for Israel
Re: 12-Jul-14 World View -- Gaza tunnels dangerous for Israe
Never permit the enemy the choice of battlefields. Smoke the tunnels. Find all points of access. Don't even attempt to clear the tunnels. Multiple booby-trap all points of access, cut the power (no more light, or ventilation), then blow all entrances. When those outside attempting to find their way back in, or those inside attempt to find their way out, each will find that they have a surprise awaiting them. It isn't incumbent upon Israel to commit suicide just because the Palestinians want them to. Or more simply, as Gaza is a congested city, raize everything within 3 city blocks in each direction of each access point.
Before Sherman's march to Savannah, Georgia from Atlanta (Sherman's march to the sea), he was confronted with a difficult prospect. There was a small rebel force to his West; a force that he could pursue; but Sherman believed that they would dissolve into an insurgency and degenerate into a protracted war of attrition with no possibility of victory, only casualties. He rightly understood that he didn't have to defeat them. They would be defeated by those with whom they lived. To that end Sherman's quote as he marched to the sea ravaging all of central Georgia as he went (paraphrasing): ... we may never be able to win the hearts of these people, but we can make our being here so unpleasant that they will never wish us to return.... Without a shot being fired, the Georgian's themselves defeated the rebel antagonists to Sherman's West - thus Sherman avoided the un-winnable insurgency by doing the unexpected - the path from goat to hero.
But then again, what do I know?
