There will not be any military strikes in Syria. The so-called debate means nothing; Obama is not going to be able to win anyone over to his side. He tried to sell a small strike on Assad after the August 21 chemical attack, but faced opposition with just about everyone. People have been predicting imminent military action ever since this war began. It's been close to three years and still no strike, nor will there be.

Bashar al-Assad may be a monster by killing people within his own country but are they "his" people? I do not think he feels that they are. The division of the Islamic interpretations makes for interesting bedfellows and belligerents.

One thing that is in his favor is that fact that when the Arab Spring exploded over North Africa and the Middle East, the Syrian government was openly and violently attacked by extremists and civilians alike demanding that he step down. I think the Saudi ruling family would be doing the exact same thing in his situation. He is defending his authority and his country from revolutionaries, extremists, and fanatics. What ruler dictator just walks away when someone calls him a poopy head and says go pound sand? None

It is telling that he was wiling to discuss and attempt to solve the terrorist problem but not the transitional government. Why should he step down as dictator of Syria? It is his country after all. Do you think Obama would not do something similar? autocrats are all the same. They thumb their noses at all opposed, do as they wish, destroy any who are a threat. Some revolutions succeed, some do not. His methods are brutal but his is accomplishing his goal of eliminating the opposition. Eventually the fake freedom fighters will tire of the game or be exterminated without conscience.

cheers
