South Korean media reported last week that NK special forces practiced a mock raid on a (disused) NK airport as a practice raid on SK's Inchon airport. The NK commandos flew in using special constructed wooden airplanes to avoid radar detection.

SK think tanks have been saying for months they expect the NK to invade several of the outlying islands which border North Korea.

The South Korean President is a hardliner (her father was a former military dictator) who is surrounded by military academy graduates (seen as a disturbing situation here in Seoul). She has promised to respond forcefully if the North Koreans attack. This could easily spark an all out war. I think this time it could be different from last spring. I think this time there is too much room for mistakes.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said "The United States is concerned that the Syrian government is behind in delivering these chemical weapons precursor materials on time."
This is the exact same rhetoric that Colin Powell and the Bush admin used to justify sending troops into Iraq. They constantly repeated that Iraq was not destroying their rockets and delivery systems fast enough. How did that work out for us?

This is just another shuck and jive moment the government wants to use to get us involved in another war. For the purpose of distracting the stupid Americans from domestic problems. Why is Europe not doing anything about this? Why is Turkey not getting involved? Why not the Saudis?
Because we make the best scapegoats and are the easiest to hate once it happens.

cheers

Why the hell should Assad cooperate? He's winning on the battlefield, and is likely to win the war, considering the kind of support he's getting from Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah. Assad's also well aware that we're not going to do anything but make speeches condemning him, which is nothing but a lot of hot air.

I've been hearing for two years now that American intervention is imminent, that any day now we're going to start bombing Assad out of power. It's not going to happen.
