al-Qaeda would have taken credit for the earthquake in Haiti if they'd had any way to make it believable. They've probably taken credit for Roger Rabbit!

You're right about that, although Chavez beat them to it and blamed
the earthquake on the United States.

Still, it's very strange that, after a few days have now passed, no
one else has taken credit for the Pune bombing. I know that, as an
arrogant Boomer, if I had masterminded the bombing, and then those
pipsqueaks over at al-Qaeda took credit for something I did, I'd be
pretty pissed off.

For a number of years, I've been making the point on this web site that there's going to be a new European war as part of the Clash of Civilizations world war, and that one component one component will almost certainly be a new war between France and Britain.

Recall, for example, the bitterly acrimonious debate between the two countries over farm subsidies in 2005. (See "Acrimonious European Union summit ends in crisis.") That crisis only ended because Britain completely backed down and gave in to France. These two countries have been having regular wars at least since 1066, and there's absolutely no reason to assume that they won't again.
Regular wars? Britain and France last fought a war against each other in 1815 at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. If this was 1830, I might agree with you, but we're approaching 200 years since the last "regular" war between the two. Since then they have been allies in eight different wars. I fail to see how GD justifies taking such a position.

I've discussed this at greater length in the past. England, France
and Germany have had regular crisis wars for centuries. England
claims to take pride in always siding with the more deserving side --
France in WW II and Germany in the Napoleonic wars. My expectation
is that this time Britain will be at war with France.

Incidentally, the French are still pissed off that the Duke of
Wellington defeated Napoleon. Some of them claim that the European
Union would have been formed two centuries ago if Britain hadn't
screwed it up.
