Reinhart and Rogoff ? After they were exposed as pack-of-lie artists, you'd think they'd have the decency to shutup.

There was one error in their previous book that didn't affect their
final conclusions. And global debt is still the highest its been in
200 years.

There are zero occurrences, in modern history, of any nation carrying the debt burden of the United States and having it turn out well.

As noted elsewhere all value is perceived value. As any experienced investor may attest, when perception changes, it doesn't change linearly with time, but rather changes abruptly. If the current economic policies continue, when perception changes regarding the dollar, you won't be able to give them away. That perception change won't happen immediately, and it won't happen linearly over time; but should it happen, it will happen quickly - days, perhaps weeks. The price of gold and silver, over and above production costs, are not a measure of the intrinsic value of those commodities, but rather their prices are indeed and in fact a measure of the sickness of the dollar - but again, while gold and silver are the measure of the distress of the dollar, they too will not change linearly with time, but will change abruptly with the realization of the dollar's distress, as an ever increasing number of people fly to the safety represented by gold and silver.

Economically speaking, America's job, a job that it has admirably executed over time, has been to obsolete the existent world - to obsolete the keel boat with the seam ship, to obsolete the horse drawn buggy with the auto, to obsolete the electron tube with the semiconductor, to obsolete the discrete semiconductor with the integrated circuit, to obsolete the integrated circuit with the microprocessor, etc.... Our job as Americans has been and needs to continue to be, if we are not to sink into a third world country, to change and obsolete the world as it presently exists; and to do it as rapidly as possible. What America's job is not: is not to out produce a third world destitute laborer in producing widgets while he poisons the very place where he lives.

America has selected an incompetent who believes that he can steal what the productive have accrued; and in his own words he seeks: "...to spread the wealth around...." Unfortunately, or fortunately, as you may see it, he can do none of that; all that he can accomplish is to drive the productive, and their capital to other more favorable places - places where they and their capital will work more efficiently, and effectively. If you are too close to the US to objectively observe this, then observe the destruction that is being illustrated and played out by France's 75% tax rate. The cash, simply put, will not be stolen. It will, with a line quickly typed on a keyboard flow - or be moved silently, if you will - to other more favorable places where it will work more efficiently, and effectively. Obama's only choice, contrary to what he may believe, is whether he understands this or not. His only choice is to make America the best possible place for business formation, a place for the wealthy of the world to place their cash; or he may with his adolescent thug socialist mentality continue to believe that he may: "...spread the wealth around..." and thus add America's name to the long, and growing list of failed socialist societies by depriving America of the investment capital it so desperately needs. Unfortunately Obama is so limited that he doesn't understand that everything he has been doing in the last 5 years has only succeeded in driving investment capital to other more attractive places. In so doing he has chosen to deny its use to the most accomplished, most efficient American business for asset creation.

There is a common misconception regarding the wealthy. That misconception is that the wealthy have this huge vault, ah la Scrooge McDuck, where they sit daily counting all their oodles of cash. Nothing could be further from reality. The wealthy understand that cash not working is cash shrinking - thus they always seek to invest it; and they invest it where it best serves their needs, not the needs of a black African Marxist Chicago confrontational thug who believes that there is nothing that he can't steal with a sufficient majority vote of Congress, or lacking that, via the dictate of an Executive Order via fiat.

Capitalism is not easy, but it is also not a zero-sum-game, meaning that there is not some arbitrary absolute fixed amount of something to be fought over by the plaintive hoards. While that may be the case with certain fixed assets, in capitalism state of mind changes reality. Believe that you have nothing and indeed you have nothing; believe that you may make bricks with the lowly dirt that you have and - poof - from nothing, by human thought, creativity, and effort, new and hither too nonexistent value is miraculously created, almost from nothing. Steal that value from those who created it, and you assure that he who created it will move to where you cannot again steal the fruit of his labor; or if he cannot move he will simply create no more - and that is where hundreds of thousands of American healthcare practitioners find themselves.
