Not surprised by Al Qeda in Iraq; always thought all they had to do was wait until we left. Knowing GD says "not by much", I wonder how things would be if Hussein were still in power?

Were Hussein still in power, my guess is that things would be the same, but different. Instead of Shia repressing Sunni, it would be secular Sunnis repressing Shia - as it had been throughout all of Hussein's Ba'athist reign; although Saddam was an equal opportunity monster, killing and torturing all who he perceived threatened him or dared to eclipse his popularity including Kurds, Shia, Christians, and some Sunni - Ba'athists who became "inconvenient."

Just a guess.
