It looks like China is getting out the old play book.

page 58 - to satisfy the Chinese need of wood for barges and ships, hundreds of thousands or even
millions of acres of forests in Vietnam were felled - which lead to the first series of uprising against Chinese rule

page 78 - the Chinese military leader Zhu Di in the early 1400's began the systematic obliteration of Vietnamese nation identity by destroying native art, literature, dress and hairstyles, and forcing them to accept Chinese culture. This lead to a revolt in 1418 lead by Le L'oi freeing Vietnam from Chinese rule .

Very interesting ---
the only problem is it feeds into --- the -- keep them fighting amongst themselves issue -- so they can stay slaves --
which leads to --- you know where I am going, --- forget about it
