About as many Egyptians have been killed as Israelis.

This is a lot worse than the Intifadas ever were. True, they claimed more lives over all, but over period of around 5-6 years. The violence there in terms of population was lower than what we're currently seeing in Chicago. But this looks like an actual war, not just tit-for-tat exchanges.

I could be wrong, but this feels a little different from the previous clashes. Israel doesn't care as much about international opinion as they did previously, and Hamas is unwilling to back down and accept a cease-fire without massive concessions the Israelis will never give. Perhaps it'll end like all the other times, but if the West Bank gets involved as well, this could really get ugly.
