At 11 pm ET on Thursday evening, forum web site host Newtek sent me a
message saying that the web site would go down for one or two hours.

Unfortunately, the period of down time extended to over 14 hours.

In addition, the data base was restored to a backup made several hours
earlier. This means that if you posted something on Thursday evening
(ET), then you may have to repost it.

I recently looked at a car owned by two Indian engineers. I talked to the woman and asked her if I could open up the hood and take a look. She is an engineer for a large world renowned high tech firm. I pulled the oil dipstick out and it was completely covered in varnish. I then took the oil cap off and noted what I could see had an extremely heavy coat of dark brown varnish. The car had about 130K miles on it. I explained to her what it was. She said her husband takes care of all that and she doesn't know anything about it. She asked me what to do. I told her to get some high mileage engine oil and do frequent oil changes.

After that, I remarked to somebody that I should probably be doing her engineering job, but there's no chance I would ever get hired to do it (or even if I was, it would be so disgusting to work there that I would quit anyway like I did my last engineering job and the one before that).

My experience in the engineering world is similar to the above. The Asian engineers asked me what to do, I told them and they followed my directions or copied my work.
