OK, you and Mazanec have finally shamed me into updating the State of
the World graphic. It actually wasn't nearly as much trouble as I was
imagining.

Anyway, take a look and if you don't like the numbers let me know.

Hi, John. I just saw your changes.

-Western Europe has been upgraded from "3: High" to "2: Medium."

-Mideast has been upgraded from "4: Active" to "3: High."

-"Russia Caucasus has been upgraded from "3: High" to "2: Medium."

-Kashmir has been downgraded from "2: Medium" to "3: High."

-China remains at "3: High."

-North Korea has been downgraded from "2: Medium" to "3: High."

-Financial remains at "3: High."

Swine/Bird Flu/Ebola has been upgraded from "4: Active" to "2: Medium."

Based on these changes, it appears that you believe that the geopolitical situation is getting better in Europe and the Middle East, while it is getting worse in Asia. Can you please provide your main reasons for each change?

Thanks, Iceman. I had just about given up nagging John, but you made the decisive difference.

2017 County Health Rankings Key Findings Report
More Americans are dying prematurely across the U.S.

Introduction

The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps program helps communities identify and implement solutions that make it easier for people to be healthy in their neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. Ranking the health of nearly every county in the nation, the County Health Rankings illustrate what we know when it comes to what is keeping people healthy or making people sick and how the opportunity for good health differs from one county to the next. Supporting a call to action, the Roadmaps show what we can do to create healthier places for everyone to live, learn, work, and play. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation collaborates with the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute to bring this program to communities across the nation.

Summary of Key Findings

Now in its eighth year, the County Health Rankings continue to bring revealing data to communities across the nation.

More Americans are dying prematurely, notably among our younger generations

Disconnected youth (a new measure this year) are youth and young adults ages 16–24 who are not in school and not working, and represent untapped potential to strengthen the social and economic vibrancy of local communities. In 2015, there were about 4.9 million youth – or 1 out of 8 – not in school or working.

After years of improvement, premature death rates began to rise steadily in 2012 and then accelerated from 2014 to 2015 (representing a 1 percent increase).

Premature death rose in 2015 across the full range of racial and ethnic groups and community types.

John,
After 3 years of looking at the 2014 version, just looking at the updated 2017 going into 2018 numbers along with their associated pretty colors does signs and wonders for me! :D Thanks! And tons of gratitude for your unending work in here and for keeping us in the know. As for the numbers, they look great to me! Just hoping to make it out of here in one piece and one coherent mind when the this-is-the-end and you're-number's-up arrives. Regards.

Tom,
Your very welcome Tom. Sometimes is does take that last burst of kick-it-in effort to hit the finish line tape first (well, in running-racing for me it always has been anyway). Glad to be of help! :D And Lord knows he doesn't need any help from me, but please be nice to "A". ;) I really enjoy what he puts out, even if I can't understand it all sometimes. Through his comments/articles/writings/and yes, even an inordinate amount of letters, numbers and huh? symbols on rare occasion...he really makes me dig hard to find another way of looking at all. I like that, and most of the time, I need that. Peace.

I and most people are completely baffled by almost all of Aeden's
posts, and I particularly have no idea what those raw hex and html
codes are about. At any rate, Aeden's posts are completely
inappropriate for the "Financial Topics" thread.

Here's something we might do (and Aeden, if you read this, let me know
if this works for you):
  • Rename the top-level "Reality Check" sub-forum to something else
since he's long gone. We might call it "Other Topics" or we could
even call it "Aeden's Forum", though that would be redundant with the
thread name. I'm flexible about how to name it.
  • Create a new thread in that sub-forum, "Aeden's topics". Once
again, I'm flexible about the name.
  • Optionally, if he wants, I can move some of his posts from the
Financial Topics thread to the Aeden's topics thread.
Aeden could then post anything he likes in that thread. This would
give Aeden's posts a great deal of prominence, since "Aeden's topics"
would always appear on the home screen board index, but it would be
outside the Financial Topics thread. Hopefully, that would work for
everyone.

The following historical page contains all the conflict risk graphics,
along with explanations:

Also, on the home page, I've provided a link to that same page, right
under the graphic.

I think that would be an excellent idea John! And to back up why I say as such...some years ago before I retired, I was apart of a surfing forum that catered to surfers of course. Since my job had to do "weather"...I would come in to the site and post what I saw in the way of surf to ride on the horizon. The moderator of the site fixed up my own little "Aeden's Forum" you could say by calling it "Iceman's Forecast." The site has since gone belly up when another Larger surf forum in a Larger city came online. You know how it goes...everybody wants to be with what they think is the "In Crowd." Such is life, but good memories it was when it was.

Yesterday morning I created the new sub-forum called "Aeden's Forum."
I didn't create any threads, since Aeden can do that himself, and give
them any names he chooses. This solution gives his posts a great deal
of prominence on the board, while leaving the "Financial Topics"
thread free for its original purpose. So I hoped that this solution
would be a win for everyone.

I sent him an e-mail message yesterday morning explaining all this to
him, including the fact that several people wanted him to keep
posting. However, the e-mail message bounced, apparently because he
closed the e-mail account linked to the forum. So it appears that
he's cut himself off completely from this forum.

I'll leave "Aeden's Forum" up for a while in case he wants to come
back.

Thanks for trying to do all that you did John. Commendable on your part since it is your forum. And hopefully it's not an "Irish Goodbye" A, although to be honest, I've done my share in forums from years past. Otherwise...I've incorporated your "There are no accidents" to lifes repertoire, no matter how difficult the circumstances may get. See you on the other side.
