Death of the Fourth Turning Forum

Post by John »

Neil Howe has announced that he will kill the Fourth Turning
Forum on May 16.

The 20 year history will be lost, and all the members will
be thrown out on the street.

If there's any old content you want, now is the time to
go to get it, while you still can.

I've been a member since 2003, so I've had lots of conversations, and
I pretty much save everything as I go along -- all my postings, plus
the postings I'm responding to, plus any other postings that I
consider important. So basically I'm all set.

Looks like a lot of work to transfer all the files.

Welcome to the forum.

Well, as I wrote in the other forum, I've written a program that does
the work of saving a thread. Just feed it the URL of the thread, and
it saves all the pages.

If there are any threads you want saved, let me know.

As time permits, I'm writing a program that will convert the files
into a form that can be displayed outside the FT forum. The main
issues are links and graphics. Shouldn't take more than a few days.

The Fourth Turning Forum Archive

Post by John »

***** The Fourth Turning Forum Archive *****

http://generationaldynamics.com/tftarchive

The first version of the Fourth Turning Forum archive is now online.

http://generationaldynamics.com/tftarchive

With the Fourth Turning Forum being killed on May 16, 2016, this
archive of some of the threads is presented as a public service to the
hundreds of people who have been members for many years.

This is a first version. I hope to get some of the linking and
formatting working better. If there's something you'd like to see,
let me know and I might be able to accomodate you.

The software to produce this archive has been written and can be rerun
at any time. That means that I can still add new threads. I can also
rerun it to capture any posts that are added to these threads before
May 16.

If this archive is missing any threads that you want, then let me know
as quickly as possible, before they're killed and disappear forever.

I know that I'm going to be going back through notes all week to see
if there are any more threads I want. I urge everyone to do the same.

Hello, I'm only new to the forum (signed up today), although I've been reading the Generational Dynamics website for perhaps half a year. I became familiar with the Fourth Turning only really in the past 1-2 years. So I'm only a newbie in the grand scheme of things. I'm currently studying a degree in economics & finance, and find this compliments what I'm learning.

Anyways, I just have a general question. Not necessarily important, more just curiosity. Why did Neil close down the Fourth Turning forum in 2016? Was it for any particular reason?
