Re: 4-Jun-10 News-North Korea: 'War may break out at any moment'
The Defense Department has been ignoring basic research for years.... John, does GD say anything about the general decline in basic research in the U.S. or when/if it might rebound? It seems to me like it's part of a bigger trend over the last 30 years or so away from reality and towards quick fixe...

Re: Financial topics
They might do that. But for most people it is easier to fit an interesting amount of gold into their safe deposit box. Also, if you come back a few years later your gold is fine but your wheat might not be. The big problem with gold or any store of value is protecting it. If OPEC stores their gold ...

Re: A summary of John's forecasts and explanations
Second, are you claiming that these web sites were correct significantly more than 50% of the time? That would be an amazing record, if true Yes, I'm claiming that. Because of Russell's reasoning and specific predictions I've made a fair amount of money without a lot of risk. Ditto with The Housing...

Re: A summary of John's forecasts and explanations
All I know is that I kept talking about a stock market bubble in 2005-2007, and that people were writing to me and calling me crazy. Then, after the bubble burst, I saw these ridiculous arguments by Roubini and other bloggers about U shaped, V shaped and W shaped recessions. Today, people like you ...

Re: Financial topics
John, quite honestly, you're going to have to do better than predicting future trouble between Israel and Palestine to impress anyone. Of the list you posted from 2003: 1. Macro economy (2003): We're entering a new 1930s style Great Depression, and the stock market will fall to Dow 4000 or lower. 65...

John, have you written anything about what a war between modern would Europe look like? I sure can't picture it looking like the last one - tanks rolling into cities or men in trenches firing rifles at each other. And Europe doesn't have many foreign possessions these days to conduct a proxy war thr...

Re: 10-May-10 News -- Europeans approve trillion dollars aid
Just so everyone knows where Obama's Supreme Court nominee Kagan stands on Federal Reserve Transparency - well she doesn't stand really, it's more of a sit with an option to rollover. And she's about to get her treat: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aSab0xkcV8jc Sept. 30 (Bloombe...

Re: 8-May-10 News -- World markets continue to deteriorate
The thing that's odd about Thursday's panic is the quick recovery within 15 minutes from a thousand point plunge. How many traders look at a market that just fell 10% fifteen minutes ago and start bargain hunting? About zero I would guess. Nothing other than government intervention (plunge protectio...
