Relax, nothing is going to happen because rational actors. Does "rational actors" equal "reasons"? ..inexplicable, unspecified, magical, unicorn fart -like, "reasons"? I'm puttin' (not Putin!) my money on unicorn farts! ..smells like VICTORY... or perhaps Teen Spirit,.. not quite sure which. Correct.

Re: 9-Aug-17 World View -- China threatens India, as Trump threatens North Korea / China sets apparent Aug 19 deadline

Aren't any of you afraid? I've had this disconcerting feeling for the last few days. I don't want to die. Tomorrow I'm going to eat BBQ ribs for lunch and have steak for dinner. I haven't eaten either in a long time. I don't know what to write. My mother told me my grandparents were afraid when the...

Re: 9-Aug-17 World View -- China threatens India, as Trump threatens North Korea / China sets apparent Aug 19 deadline

John, In your view is it possible for a crisis era to end without war? Is there any precedent for this and if so, how was war averted? Also, what is your view regarding Strauss and Howe's generational archetype framework, describing how individuals actually move through the historical cycle and in t...

Re: 5-Aug-17 World View -- China further escalates the rhetoric threatening India over Doklam Plateau

The Indians will definitely fight, because if they don't push back now, they will wake up and find Eastern India cut off from New Delhi. This is a red line the Indians will never allow to be crossed. And this is where it gets really dangerous. China doesn't need to steal land from Bhutan to survive...

Re: 3-Aug-17 World View -- Rex Tillerson warns China is risking 'open conflict' with the United States

Why don't we communicate to the Chinese very clearly that any conventional attack on us bases or carriers will automatically trigger a full retaliatory nuclear strike, including from survivable SSBN's. Just as was made clear to the soviets by the silent generation leaders when it looked like they we...

Re: 1-Aug-17 World View -- Torture and murder of election official raise fears of violence in Kenya

I think I read about this conflict in one of the editions of "A Quick & Dirty Guide to War" by James Dunnigan and Austin Bay. They spend a lot of time going over the entho-linguistic, culutural, religious, geographical, historical fault lines that underlie the various conflicts and flash points in t...

Re: 30-Jul-17 World View -- South Korea approves new THAAD deployment after North Korean missile test

John, I have some questions regarding the generational dynamics framework. Given that generational crisis eras occur 60-80 years after the previous crisis war, do you expect that trends such as longer life spans, ageing populations( at least in the west), people staying in influential positions unti...

Re: 27-Jul-17 World View -- Israel braces for new 'day of rage' at al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem on Friday

We are under occupation and the al-Aqsa Mosque is a red-line to everyone in Jerusalem - actually, to everyone in Palestine, and all over the Muslim world - but much more for the people of [Jerusalem]. It's dearer than their own lives." If I never hear the word 'red line' again it will be too soon. ...
