Fantastic! Thanks.

Look at the negatives though. Russia fighting on the side of China? Nearly unthinkable. Far more likely she'd side with Europe.

Austin -- You left out India, Russia's close ally.

I see conflicting points where the coming Clash of Civilizations, which I agree will happen, but this clash has Russia on side of West. But with Russia's veto of the intervention with Syria and Libya siding with China, and their opposition with the missile defense, and the animosity with Japan, and its HEAVY ties with arab allies of Iran and Syria, I find it hard, at present, for Russia to side with the West when it now seems to side on that of oppression and socialism instead of the ideals of the West. For centuries Russia has always been against what the West holds dear.

I can understand the past history of the region being heavily orthodox, but the agnostic socialism of the government negates the influence. There would need to be a revival of religious beliefs within Russia which maybe the clash with Islamic regions may trigger. Less than 20% are orthodox at present.

Russia did not get along with the arab's during the times of the Ottomans and the "Ottoman empire" will re-emerge on the back of the arab spring. Russia also never got along with the european states (the west) at the time as well. The Ottomans were more inline with the west as they fought together against Russia

Sure, there may have been some working towards the same goal with the west against the nazi's, but Russia is way too confident now and they think they can do things themselves and do it better than any other as well. Watch the "state run" Russian Television. RT may say its independent but it spits out the same national dribble as a state run institution. The nazi's were more "orthodox" in their beliefs (iron cross and the like). If Russia still had the same orthodox ties as the nazi's, they would be best of buds irrespective of atrocities to civilians as Russia and Syria has now as the slaughter of the people today as Assad's father did in his reign.

As within your profile of Russia, there seems to be building of ties within orthodox church. But to do this, there needs to be a MAJOR change in the political elite which have a tremendous grip on power. This change will be the deciding factor but how it will go about it is a great unknown. I belv it needs to precede the "solving the terrorism problem." It may be more likely that there will be a tea party US president than a power to shift to the "religious orthodox right" in Russia.

In the coming Clash of Civilizations, I see Russia in it be itself against the new Arabian empire. I also belv that China also will be against this empire as well as will be the west. My opinion is that the saying "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" won't apply. The clash will be four way: Western Allies, arab alliance, China, Russia.

...we will see...

Well, two weeks ago it was Hillary Clinton who called the French Foreign Office minister Alain Juppé "Mr the Prime minister" (she explained she was misled by her memories because he was the Prime minister between 1995 and 1997). The French Prime minister is François Fillon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fran%C3%A7ois_Fillon
Right, he's rather unassuming and quiet for a politician but he still is the incumbent.
Thanks for the correction.
