The Europeans are a funny crowd: they think that state televisions/radios are freer than private ones, and they can't imagine life without them. On top of that, they demand public broadcasters but are not ready to pay for it (I mean, pay for the extra cost that it entails). Europe is so state-oriented... but when there is no more money to spend, what do we do?
