That's what happened to Japanese women in Manchuria after the Second World War. These women became sex slaves to Chinese farmers and manual laborers. One Chinese women wrote in the 1980s that when she was a little girl, there was a Japanese woman who lived in their house who not only shared a bed with her father (he also had a Chinese wife), but had to put on his shoes every morning when he left he house. She was a sex slave. A formerly middle class Japanese woman reduced to being the sex slave of a impoverished Chinese farmer.

The Chinese know well of the fate of Japan's female colonists, and yet they still send their women abroad. The Chinese must be confident things will work out differently for them.

My feeling, based on many, many things that I've read in the last
year, is that China's BRI is a humongous financial disaster in the
making. The other side of "debt trap diplomacy" is that all these
debt traps will be sprung at roughly the same time, as each debt trap
default creates a level of panic that triggers defaults in other debt
traps.
China is in serious trouble, thus the new push for control. I have serious concerns about what China might do when things fall apart. I'm hoping for implosion and civil war, not external war.

Pakistan had nothing to do with the Khashoggi murder. But after the
murder took place, Khan was able to leverage MBS's embarrassment to
get $6B in aid.

Yes, John, this blog makes me sad. I know people who fell for the bitcoin bad. For decades I've attempted to emphasize the differences between investing and speculating and pie in the swamp. Greed is like playing chess and being certain the rules will not apply to you.
Not certain I buy the Pakistani engineering of the Khashoggi slaughter. Salman is a snake who needed no help in blatantly murdering a reporter.
The Pakis and Chinese deserve each other.

Another point, which you have also mentioned, is the shocking general crackdown going on in China.

I have a lot of contacts in China too, and they are all, and I mean all, desperate to get their money, families, and themselves out of China. One of my contacts used to work for a Chinese cosmetic tycoon. This woman used to be Chinese film star in the 1970s-80s, and she disappeared without a trace several years ago. She was arrested by Chinese tax officials and disappeared. This is common. Billionaires and millionaires are accused of crimes and imprisoned. Their fortunes seized by the state. Some tycoons just disappear and that's it. The Chinese government is now openly operating as a gangster state. Everyone is terrified. It's like Xi doesn't even care what people think anymore. I am not exaggerating the sense of hysteria emerging from the mainland.

I have helped several people move out of the country in the last two years. I know you say Chinese are patriotic, and I kind of agree, but I think it's the 'trapped classes' which don't have the option to flee which are patriotic. Any one who can leave China has already left or is in the process of leaving. I don't know how much of a fifth column they would be. The Chinese I know all think the Chinese government is criminally insane.

The new 'honor citizen' system is insane. The honor citizen system is an open sign of desperation. China is on the brink of failure, not global dominance.I think the B-R project is more a pressure valve than anything else.

The last time I was in China the customs officials were openly hostile and the police indifferent. It was scary. I'm a Westerner, and I was scared. It's too dangerous to operate in mainland China anymore. It's over. And the Chinese government doesn't even seem to care.

My feeling, based on many, many things that I've read in the last
year, is that China's BRI is a humongous financial disaster in the
making. The other side of "debt trap diplomacy" is that all these
debt traps will be sprung at roughly the same time, as each debt trap
default creates a level of panic that triggers defaults in other debt
traps.

What most people don't understand is any bank or company can "create"
money by issuing debt. People think that only the federal government
can create money, but the money created by issuing debt is 100%
identical to the money created money created by the federal
government. And in a debt bubble, money created by issuing debt
vanishes when the bubble bursts.

I take note of the fact that Bitcoin is crashing. It's been year
since I wrote my article about Bitcoin:

** 16-Oct-17 World View -- Bitcoin super-bubble surges through $5,000 and blasts even higher
** http://www.generationaldynamics.com/pg/ ... tm#e171016

When I wrote that article, a bitcoin was at $5,000. In the last
year it's gone above $20,000, and in the last few days it's
crashed to well below $4,000. A lot of people have lost a hell
of a lot of money.

In the last month, the ICO ("initial coin offering") market
has become completely dead. It's no longer possible to set up
your own personal Ponzi scheme by creating a new cryptocurrency,
and then using a pump and dump scheme to sell it to suckers.

In the last year, a new financial bubble has emerged -- the BRI
bubble. What's happening in the Maldives and Pakistan is really
ominous, and shows how dangerous the situation is. This is a bubble
that's going to burst, with catastrophic results, especially in Asia.

We keep speculating about what will trigger the next world war --
South China Sea, North Korea, Mideast, Kashmir, etc. But another
possibility has always been a global financial crisis triggering the
world war. The Bitcoin crash may have cascading effects leading
to a broader crisis but, if not, it might be the BRI bubble.

What happens if Pakistan defaults on its loans? I mean, does China take over the country?

I have a lot of experience dealing with Indians and Pakistanis. Both groups (and I'm talking about the educated ones) have always been aggressive and blatantly dishonest. How anyone, even the Chinese, think they will get their money back from the Pakistanis? Everyone I talked to about this situation just says that it's a case of cheaters trying to cheat other cheaters. Foxes attempting to outfox each other. Latin Americans are just as dishonest and two-faced as the Indians/Pakistanis and the Chinese.

How will this all end? I think the Chinese will lose all of their money and the lives of most Chinese colonists. Chinese women caught up in the collapse will become sex slaves to Africans, Pakistanis, and Mexicans.
