The most interesting phrase in your (John's) post, to me, was; "In the view of many Chinese.."
Everything else in that post was simply stating the obvious,.. or, if "you're" not paying attention, new and fascinating facts derived from simple observation of the world while actively ignoring the misinformation coming from "the media" who is a part of the (would-be) "single party state".
Anyway, why is that phrase the interesting bit?
Because actual "movement" toward the oncoming conflict MUST come from the Chinese "side" of the equation. At least "initially".
Genocidal energy comes from the frustrations of the "aggrieved".
Just as hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, a society that has advanced amazingly beyond all expectations of it's success who is then faced with a mighty foe that "threatens to jilt her", humiliate her, and demand back the damned ring, will ramp up and go off like the uncontrollable bridezilla that it/she is.
We're looking for log jams and triggers at this point in "the process" (history).
The log jams are the growing number of "kicking the can down the road" incidents that we "mysteriously" find, and the triggers are those things that we (usually, 'though not true in John's case) actively don't really want to find because they don't "seem" to appear until it's too late, such as super-pressurized "often unknown people of extraordinary power" and extremely convoluted "treaties" and "deals".
Yeah,.. so, taking the temperature of Chinese "popular" aggrievedness (new word, you're welcome) will be very valuable info that people will NOT want to hear about.
Only when the Chinese people (vastly majority "Han" folks) are very VERY frothed up will any "real" danger be in the wind.
In other news,.. the only way that the US will increase it's "internal unity" is via the very unwelcomed aforementioned "Frothed Up Chinese People", so,..
..be careful what you wish for, people!
Aloha gangies!
