Russia has been fighting the Chechen rebels since 1994, and it has been fighting Ukraine since 2014. Syria has been fighting a civil war since 2011. Iran is mired in wars in Syria, Yemen, and Iraq. Syria is in ruins and its economy is dead. Russia's economy is imploding and its army is bogged down in multiple wars. Iran's economy has crashed and Iranians are rioting in the streets, going on strike, and calling for regime change. Why do you considered these governments to be more effective than others?

Next you're going to say Hitler won the Second World War, but that we just don't realize it.
What John calls the "Grozny model" is the only method that is proven to work against guerrilla insurgencies. It is the tried and true method for its success and efficiency in doing the job.
It doesn't look like the model is working that well.

Russian/Syrian/Iranian Methods of warfare and insurgency suppression are highly efficient, as were German methods in the first half of the 20th century. Chechens have never wanted to be part of Russia. You don't know history. You don't know what you are taking about. Chechens never bother Russians unless attacked. Russia refuses to surrender any territory ever. Chechnya has oil. Chechnya is strategic. Putin has killed a third of Chechen population including 1/3 of Chechen children. Is it better to let the Russians murder them without resisting? Russians are not paranoid. Russians are aggressors and enslavers.

You have never known hardship or suffering. I know this because you make ignorant, stupid, shallow comments. Human suffering is not something to chat about while drinking brandy in front of your fireplace.

You asked:

I answered:

"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."

I was making the point that these people believe that they're
sacrificing their children's lives for a greater cause.

Just as America sacrificed tens of thousands of our children's
lives by sending them onto the beaches of Normandy -- for
a greater cause.

That's the way the world works.

Fishbelly:
Interesting take on "freedom". I doubt if Chechnyans, Crimeans or Ukrainians would agree with enforced freedom. Hmm. Almost seems like an oxymoron.

John isn't playing with it. He's just pointing out that others play with it.

Words are, by definition, to be played with. "Freedom" means the ability to agree or disagree about things with others.

Usually, "freedom" isn't a matter of definition, but enforcement.

John,
Playing with the definition of "freedom".
Tsk. Tsk.

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
