Whether or not brexit triggers a financial crisis is like asking if this is the straw that breaks the camels back. The straw is hardly to blame as the cause of the crisis. Equity markets are monstrously overvalued and have been for years, propped up only by cheap money and QE. The markets should have never been where they are now, the longer a proper correction is postponed the worse the result will be.
The EU, as some sort of political union, is a terrible idea. We're talking about a body that has sought to regulate the curviture of bananas and cucumbers, ban the sale of eggs by the dozen, ban certain types of vacuum cleaners and tea kettles, and any number of other bizarre measures. Good government requires power to be as devolved, direct and as local as is practicable. The EU in its current form is the precise opposite of that sentiment.
NATO was and remains an excellent idea, and should be strengthened. Perhaps instead of lobbying for a bizarre European Union Army, the Europeans can finally start taking seriously their individual roles in NATO and start working towards that 2% of gdp on defence that the charter requires and working towards interoperability and strengthening and expanding the alliance.
Some form of EEC or free trade zone is also a good idea for economic integration and was one of the great achievements of the post war world, europe should consider returning to an arrangement like that. The Eurocrats must give up on this dream of a centralized political union with them in charge and embrace the other ways Europe may be integrated.
Also, what Mr Farage was referring to with his comments is the fact that MANY of those meps come from academia and government and have never signed the back of a paycheque, never had to make payroll, never had to compete in a private business environment, never invented an innovative new product, or deal with onerous government regulations from the perspective of a business owner.
I suppose the answer to all of this will be something along the lines of "you're a racist".
