As a person that routinely associates with Hispanics - some of whom are migrant workers, I think the press is blowing out of proportion the White/Hispanic divide. Maybe things are different in Arizona, TX and other locations where the communities have become majority Hispanic, but in my community where Hispanics are less than 10% of the population - it's really not a big deal.

I remember meeting with a group of Hispanics shortly after the Paris terrorist attacks. The Hispanics were aghast, they acted exactly how I would expect any US citizen to act. They couldn't understand the hate, they completely condemned the attacks. They worried about attacks on them. This group happened to made up of Mexicans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans and Bolivians. These particular individuals were long term residents. They don't speak English well, but all their children do. One of their children was in the local ROTC for a while. They are really just first generation immigrants who like the US. Now, if the US is playing Mexico in the World Cup, they are going to root for Mexico, but that's about the extent of the animosity.

The true migrant workers, the 20-30 year old males that go from job to job doing whatever comes up and are probably not here legally - do you know what they are going to do if cities started getting nuked or the electrical infrastructure destroyed? They are not going to sit around and cause civil unrest. They are going to do what they do right now. Look for a better place to find work, and that place is probably going to be south of the border.

And having lived in the South for a couple decades, I disagree that we're as fragmented as during the Civil War. There is still a divide from that war. My city of residence has a monument to "Our Confederate Dead". It's one thing to yell insults at one another and argue, and quite another to pick up guns and slaughter each other.

Regards,
Jack

So you're saying - what? - that when Chinese missiles start landing on
American cities, then the Mexicans and illegal aliens are going to
say, "Hmmmmm. I love the Chinese and hate the Americans, so I'm going
to side with the Chinese"? That's ridiculous.

Huh? You're aware that the civil war was fought between two
"fragments," the North and the South, aren't you?

Even if you just mean that the North was unified, that isn't true
either. The Republicans wanted to finish the war off, while the
Democrats wanted to call a truce with the South, and let them keep
their slaves.

Anyway, if you're really gone to New Zealand, then what do you care?

You are missing a big point, John. How many migrants (70% of them illegal) will be willing to fight for America? America wasn't this fragmented during the Civil War (1861-65). The Zoot Riots during WW2 were only a blip on the radar, when Mexicans were a tiny minority in California, not the majority of the population of the state. You have consistently ignored the racial hatred Latinos have for everyone else (and that hatred is real). America has been invaded foreigners hell bent on doing Americans harm.

Look at the PC insanity on US college campuses; it's self-destructive nonsense. Forget it, John. This is the dumbest generation. This is the generation that has opened the gates of Rome even wider than the Baby Boomers and allowed barbarians to take everything. And I think you have helped with that yourself, John. Please feel free to continue defending illegals entering America and Europe.

Dear Trevor,

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that people in your generation
will fight for America. What's happening today is what was predicted
by S&H's foundational generational theory, as the population becomes
more politically fragmented.

But all of that changes when "regeneracy events" start to occur again
-- events that regenerate civic unity for the first time since the end
of the preceding crisis war. Imagine a Chinese missile hitting San
Francisco. It's not even remotely conceivable that young people would
say, "Gee, the Chinese values are better than ours, and we didn't need
San Francisco anyway."

Are you sure we're actually going to be willing to fight when the time comes? Based on what I'm seeing right now, I'm rather inclined to doubt it.

From what I'm seeing of my generation, I have serious doubts about most of them actually picking up arms and going off to fight. They seem much more concerned about silencing any opinion that contradicts their worldview. Many don't even seem to think that America, our values and our way of life, are even worth defending. I think it far more likely that they'll refuse, or even blame the attack on something we did. If we're the successors to the G.I Generation, this nation is truly screwed.
