In France General De Gaulle organised polls (a referendum) and resigned when he lost in 1969. I believe that this was decided too late, about one full year after may 68. It is possble that Erdogan would win if he did the same in Turkey now. Why all these elites don't use the tools of democracy is a mystery to me.

I have a question about Turkey in the coming Sunni Vs Shia crisis conflict. Do the Turks automatically align with the Sunni/Arabs?

After all, they practice Sunni Islam, but they are not Arabs.
