As long as we're in such a nostalgic mood, here's one of the saddest
and most beautiful songs of the era -- Vera Lynn sending the British
soldiers off to war in 1941:

We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when
But I'm sure we'll meet again some sunny day
Keep smiling through, just like you always do
Till the blue skies chase the dark clouds far away

Now, won't you please say "Hello" to the folks that I know
Tell 'em it won't be long
'cause they'd be happy to know that when you saw me go
I was singing this song

We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when
But I'm sure we'll meet again some sunny day

I've always had a retrograde taste in music, particularly enjoying
Great Band Era music from the 30s and early 40s, before I was born.
Those were horrible times, so the purpose of Great Band Era music was
to provide sweet dance music so that, for a time, people could forget
the enormous sadness of the depression and the world war that was
engulfing the world. That's what makes Great Band Era music unlike
anything else.

Are you feeling a sense of nostalgia for the late 40's and 50's, like I am? Anyone else?

The late 40's and early 50's have always been "where I felt at home", even though I was born in '58. Not sure why. Perhaps it's my mother's sense of her youth-time world I just "absorbed" by her being who that time made her into.

"Returning" to that time right after "THE war", when everything seemed possible, just sounds SO very nice.

I feel instead that I'm "returning" to that time when the world was in awful danger of descending into hell,.. before "the war".

..crying about my "predicament" won't get me anything,.. but I don't have a choice in the matter.

Hope doesn't die, but it doesn't eliminate the tears of fear.

L'Chaim and aloha to all.
